Ira Cohen
Ira Cohen is the Managing Partner, President and Co-founder of Updata Advisors and Updata Partners. With 30 years of experience in the technology industry as a CFO, private equity investor and investment banker, he has advised on more than 200 M&A transactions and has extensive experience within the IT services and various software sectors.
Prior to founding Updata, Mr. Cohen was the CFO and Treasurer of CGA Computer, Inc. Tridex Corporation and Computer Magnetics, Inc. CGA was a public software and services company which Mr. Cohen helped to take private in a management buyout in 1984. Prior to CGA, he guided Tridex and Computer Magnetics, publicly-traded components and systems manufacturers, through acquisitions, divestitures, financings and an IPO. Earlier, Mr. Cohen held various operating roles at Quest Diagnostics, the world's largest clinical laboratory. He began his career with Laventhol and Horwath, a large international accounting firm.
As a foremost expert in M&A issues surrounding IT firms, Mr. Cohen has published articles, guest lectured and served as a valuation expert witness for a number of large, publicly-traded IT firms. He is the President of Updata Advisors' wholly owned subsidiary, Updata Securities, Inc., a FINRA Broker/Dealer. Mr. Cohen is a CPA and received an M.S. with honors in banking and financial services from Boston University and a B.S. in accounting from City University's Herbert H. Lehman College in New York. He has completed Harvard Business School's Executive Education program for publicly-traded company Audit Committee Chairs. Mr. Cohen has served on the boards of directors of several publicly-traded companies and currently is on the boards of a number of privately-held companies.
